Zhaohui Fan, MD, MPH

Statistician Expert

Biography

Zhaohui received his MD degree from Xi’an Medical University in China followed by his MPH degree in biostatistics from the School of Public Health at the University of South Florida. Since August 2018, I joined CHOP as a statistician expert. My current major role as a statistician in CHOP is to support all kinds of data management and analytic needs for the faculties and research fellows in their clinical research activities.

Zhaohui has been working on clinical registry survey design, data collection, database management, and statistical analysis since 2001, including several Michigan CQI programs such as: MBSC, MSQC, MUSIC, MVC, MTQIP, MiBOQI, etc. Zhaohui used to work for the Florida Department of Health as an epidemiologist, and worked on multiple population survey data and cancer registry data.  After that, Zhaohui served as a statistician in a group called, Michigan Surgical Collaborative for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (M-SCORE) in the Department of Surgery at the University of Michigan Health System for five years. During that time, he worked extensively with health care administrative data such as Medicare/Medicaid and other clinical registry data and CQI programs, to evaluate the surgical care performance. He has worked closely with physicians on various research projects and participated in the funding application process. I moved on to ArborMetrix, a healthcare IT company in 2011, and worked there for seven years. I had been working on all sorts of clinical registry and CQI database, Medicare, BCBSM claim data etc. I had done a lot of standardization of the database and our analytic process with the team. In addition to technical skills and health care data knowledge enrichment, I had the opportunity to develop my leadership skills as a manager for the analytic system for a few years.
