Biography

Dr. Finks is an associate professor of surgery at the University of Michigan.  He attended Harvard College and received his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine.  He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati and a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Oregon Health & Science University.  Dr. Finks serves as co-director of the Michigan Bariatric Surgery Collaborative, a payer-funded consortium of hospitals and surgeons in Michigan focused on quality improvement with bariatric surgery.  He is the assistant clerkship director for the Department of Surgery and an advisor for the Global Health and Disparities Path of Excellence in the Medical School.  He also spearheads a program to help with laparoscopic surgery skill development at St Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  Finally, Dr. Finks serves as the faculty advisor and a founder of Doctors of Tomorrow, an outreach program with Cass Technical High School in Detroit designed to help under-represented students achieve careers in the medicine.
